The longer days are very much to the fore with the Flat racing season in full swing and Thirsk Racecourse hosts its latest meeting of the season on Tuesday evening.
The action kicks off at 4.20pm with a six furlong handicap in class five and the card comes to a close at 8pm with a class six handicap and 13 runners are set to take it on.

The eight-race card gets underway at 4.20 as a field of nine tackle the six furlong apprentice handicap in class five. The Michael Dods-trained Lord Abama looks the way to go in the opener, a dual course and distance winner last season and picked up where he left off this campaign with a win at Newcastle so shades the vote here off the back of a disappointing fifth. Abate was a good second on season return and rates the next best.
Race two of the evening (4.55) is another class five contest, this time for the two-year-old’s in the maiden stakes. Jan Steen makes plenty of appeal on paper for the Karl Burke team, a stable that is four wins from seven starts with their juveniles this term so is very much of interest here.
A field of six will take on race three on the card (5.30) and Teroomm, trained by the powerful Roger Varian, is a big player in the seven furlong novice stakes having landed a nine-runner maiden at Bath last time out 18 days ago, rating a useful prospect in the process,. Of his rivals, Parole D’oro can give him the most to think about, a winner on his second start when landing a seven runner at Epsom back in August and improvement is expected now having turned three-years-old.
Division one of the class five handicap marks the fourth race at Thirsk on Tuesday (6.00) and this one can go the way of the progressive Jez Bomb, a four-time winner last year and second on season reappearance last time out at Southwell, while division two of the same discipline (6.30) should see Swift Salian run well, a creditable fourth at Musselburgh on his first start of the new campaign nine days ago and can build on that outing.
Ten runners will head to post for the mile and a half class four handicap (7.00) and Cavern Club, a winner over hurdles last season, is taken to get the job done again on the level having also won on the Flat last May for trainer James Owen.
The penultimate race of the Spring evening sees a field of ten tackle the five furlong handicap in class three, the feature race of the evening (7.30) and the Kevin Ryan-trained Against The Wind is the selection on handicap debut, off for seven months having last been seen finishing 13th in a Listed contest at Ayr but this is much calmer waters.
Finally, the Thirsk card comes to a close at 8.00 as a good field of 13 take on the seven furlong handicap in class six. Preference in the finale heads the way of Emerald Army, hailing from the Declan Carroll yard, who posted a career-best last time out ten days ago when landing a 17-runner handicap at this track. Of his rivals, Newcastle winner Captain Vallo rates the chief threat.
