Police dog handlers save man’s life after collapse near A19

Two North Yorkshire Police dog handlers have been praised after saving the life of a man who was found collapsed on a rural lane near Northallerton.

The officers were first on the scene on Thursday, April 9, after a member of the public reported an unresponsive man on a track beside the A19.

Using their first aid training, the officers quickly identified the seriousness of the situation when the man showed signs of severe breathing difficulties. They immediately began CPR and, after receiving information that the man had taken drugs, administered Naloxone via a nasal spray.

A short time later, the man began to show signs of recovery before being handed over to ambulance crews. He was later confirmed to be expected to make a full recovery.

Inspector Amy Blakeley of North Yorkshire Police said: “We’re very pleased to hear that the man is expected to make a full recovery.

“We’re very proud of our officers who acted swiftly and professionally to respond to a critical situation, resulting in a life being saved.

“It’s a glimpse into what goes on every day in policing that the public rarely see.

“My thanks also go to the member of the public who called in with information, had they not, it may have had a very different outcome.”
