Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious collision between a car and a lorry on the A1(M) near Catterick in the early hours of this morning.
The crash happened at around 2.20am on the southbound carriageway between junctions 52 Catterick and 51 Leeming.
It is believed the car had been travelling behind the lorry before it left the carriageway and ended up in the central reservation.
The driver of the car, a man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the lorry driver was uninjured.
The southbound carriageway was closed until around 3pm today for police to carry out a full investigation of the scene.
