Police are appealing for information following the theft of a Vespa scooter in Bedale in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The incident happened just after midnight on Fitzalan Road, when two people are believed to have started the vehicle without keys before making off on it.
The scooter was later seen travelling through Catterick Garrison and Richmond, before being located by officers. However, the rider failed to stop and made off following a short pursuit.
The Vespa was eventually found abandoned near Milbury Hill Country Store on the B6271.
Police are urging anyone who lives in the Fitzalan Road area to check their CCTV for any suspicious activity or footage showing one or two motorcycles in the area around midnight.
Officers are also appealing to motorists who were travelling between Bedale, Catterick, Richmond and Brompton-on-Swale at the time to review their dashcam footage for any images of two motorcycles travelling together.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to email ben.dowson@northyorkshire.police.uk, call North Yorkshire Police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
