Two men have been jailed for a large cannabis grow at an industrial unit in Aiskew where police found over 1,000 plants worth around £400,000.
Aldo Yhindole, 31, and Keijan Limo, 30, were arrested after police discovered at least seven large growing tents at the property in Jubilee Road, Aiskew
The two foreign nationals were each charged with being concerned in the production of cannabis between November 1, 2024, and February 21 this year.
Yhindole and Limo, both of whose last registered address was the industrial unit, appeared for sentence at Teesside Crown Court yesterday when they were each jailed for 22 months.
Police were initially alerted to the grow after receiving a call from an electrical supplier who raised concerns over irregular power usage at the premises following a localised outage.
As officers arrived, the two occupants ran from the area and a police helicopter was scrambled to assist with the search.
A short time later, the two runners were detained and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a class – B drug.
The men were believed to be acting as part of an organised crime group based in the Western Balkan region of Europe.
Inside the premises, officers discovered a highly professional and sophisticated large-scale cannabis farm with thousands of plants spread across several growing areas.
Officers believe it had been used by an organised crime gang to produce several crops with an estimated street value of £395,000 to £494,000.
