An “extremely dangerous” man who stabbed another man during a violent attack in Brompton has been jailed for 15 years.
Sean Derbyshire, 40, forced entry into a house on Danes Crest at around 8am on December 30, 2024, where he stabbed his victim in the chest and left him “lucky to be alive”.
Police were called and officers arrived within minutes, but Derbyshire had already fled the scene.
He was arrested later the same day in Great Ayton.
Derbyshire, of Rectory Lane, Guisborough, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and attempted robbery on the fourth day of his trial at Teesside Crown Court.
In addition to his 15-year prison sentence, the judge imposed a three-year extended licence period.

The court heard that Derbyshire had first arrived at the house at around 6am, where he threatened the victim with a knife, punched him, and demanded money. He was removed from the property by other occupants.
Two hours later he returned, smashed through a patio door and demanded, “Give me everything you’ve got,” before stabbing the man in the chest.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance and discharged two days later after treatment for his injuries.
In a statement read to the court, the victim described how he continues to struggle with the aftermath of the attack.
He said: “I am reminded of the attack daily when I look in the mirror and see the scars to my lip, leg and chest area. These scars are a constant reminder of the attack, and they take me back to what happened.”
He added that his confidence had been shattered, his family were left deeply worried, and he continues to feel guilty about the impact on them.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Hannah Kelly, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “Derbyshire is an extremely dangerous individual who forced entry into a home and carried out a vicious and unprovoked attack. The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a stab wound to the chest. He is incredibly lucky to be alive; this could easily have had a far more tragic outcome.
“There is absolutely no place for violent offenders like Derbyshire on the streets of North Yorkshire. His actions posed a serious risk to the public and caused significant concern among residents.
“I want to commend the bravery of the victim and the witnesses who came forward. Their courage and cooperation were instrumental in securing this conviction and ensuring justice was served.”
