Man dies after light aircraft crash at Sherburn Aero Club

A man has died after a light aircraft crashed.

Emergency services were called to Sherburn Aero Club shortly before 1pm today following reports of a light aircraft crash on the runway.

Police and other emergency services attended the scene, where it was confirmed that a small plane had crash-landed.

Aman in his 70s from the Leeds area, who is believed to have been the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “His family is currently being supported by specially trained officers and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

Officers remain at the scene, which is being guarded by police, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed.

Police added that no further information about the incident or the deceased can be released at this stage while investigations continue.
