Organisers of the Hunton Steam Gathering have donated £14,000 to a range of local charities and community groups following the success of last year’s event.
The Hunton Steam Gathering committee presented the funds at a special charity evening held at the Countryman’s Inn, welcoming representatives from each of the beneficiary organisations.
Donations were made to a wide range of causes, including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Marie Curie, Dementia Forward, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Farming Community Network, Guide Dogs, Wensleydale Railway, Bedale Scout Group, Dales Centre, Hunton Quoits Club and the Dales Community Pop Choir.
During the evening, guests shared how the funding will support their work across the local area, highlighting the impact the event continues to have on community projects.
As a long-running village event, organisers said they are particularly keen to support initiatives within Hunton itself. Over the years, this has included helping to create the village playpark in 1985 and, more recently, contributing towards new pitches and additional green space for Hunton Quoits Club.
The committee also used the occasion to thank everyone who supported the 2025 event, as well as the volunteers and landowners whose efforts make it possible each year.
The Hunton Steam Gathering, which has been running since 1985, takes place on farmland just outside the village in Lower Wensleydale and has grown steadily in popularity, offering a family-friendly day out.
Planning is already underway for this year’s event, which will return on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2026, with organisers aiming to build on the success of 2025 and continue supporting local good causes.
