Grant helps young Bedale footballers keep warm

Young footballers in Bedale won’t be sidelined by the winter cold thanks to new training coats funded through a community grant.

Coach Stuart Service launched a fundraising drive to kit out the club’s Under-9s, and a £350 donation from Broadacres, awarded through its community development fund, helped the team reach its target.

“Times are hard for a lot of families, so grants like this are really important in ensuring no one misses out,” said Stuart.

“When everyone is wearing the same kit, it makes them feel like a proper team and really helps build camaraderie.”

Bedale Juniors has seen a sharp rise in participation in recent years and now supports around 400 boys and girls aged between three and 16, taking part in training sessions and matches at its Dobson’s Field ground.

“Outdoor activity is so important for physical and mental wellbeing,” Stuart added.

“The coats have proved a big success at both training and matches and will make sure cold weather doesn’t spoil the fun.”

The Broadacres community development fund supports local organisations, groups and projects in areas where Broadacres has homes.

All grants are approved by the association’s own residents.

Applications are now closed for the 2025/26 financial year, but future funding opportunities can be found on the Broadacres website at www.broadacres.org.uk.
