Firefighters from Thirsk, Ripon and Northallerton were called to a wagon fire on the A19 between Ellerbeck and Jeater Houses on Monday afternoon.
Crews were alerted at 3.15pm to reports of a lorry carrying fertiliser that was on fire.
On arrival, firefighters found the cab of the vehicle well alight, while the trailer and its load were not affected.
Two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus teams were deployed to bring the blaze under control.
Police and ambulance services were also in attendance at the scene.
Fire crews successfully extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.
