Firefighters were called to a wagon trailer containing rubbish on fire yesterday.
The incident was reported in Thirsk at about 9.30am.
Fire crews from Thirsk and Northallerton responded to the incident.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to initially tackle the fire.
They were then assisted by onsite machinery to empty the trailer and set up a ground monitor to extinguish the remaining fire.
The cause was believed to be discarded batteries.
