Festival success for Northallerton drama group

A Northallerton drama group is celebrating success after picking up several awards at the Saltburn One-Act Drama Festival.

The Allerton Players impressed judges with their production of Life in the Cloud by Tony Domaille.

The bittersweet comedy follows Ian, a brilliant scientist who manages to upload his consciousness to the digital cloud before dying before he can share his breakthrough with the world.

Chris Donnelly, who played Ian, won Best Actor, while Sarah Hunter, who played his wife Mary, was nominated for Best Actress.

Paul Staines picked up the Best Cameo award for his role as Derek, Mary’s new love interest. He and Sarah Hunter also shared the Best Comedic Moment award for their dance routine.

The production was directed by Alan Paine.
