A man has been disqualified from driving after repeatedly speeding at high levels through North Yorkshire.

Darren Harris, 33, of Clarendon Road, Thornaby, was found guilty in his absence of speeding on three occasions in the Hambleton area after failing to attend a hearing at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

He later appeared before magistrates on March 3, where he was banned from driving for two years.

In addition to the disqualification, Harris was fined £770, ordered to pay £120 in costs and a victim surcharge of £308.

Harris was identified by mobile safety cameras multiple times within a short period.

On July 9, 2025, he was recorded driving at 91mph in a 70mph zone. He failed to respond to paperwork relating to the offence.

On September 14, 2025, he was again caught speeding at 84mph in a 70mph zone and once more did not respond to correspondence. As a result of failing to provide driver details on both occasions, he was found guilty in his absence of separate offences.

The most serious incident occurred on October 9, 2025, when Harris was recorded travelling at 107mph in a 70mph zone. Due to the dangerously high speed, North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group were alerted and stopped the vehicle shortly afterwards. Harris admitted he had been the driver.

Checks revealed Harris only held a provisional driving licence. The vehicle was not displaying L plates and he was driving unsupervised. He was charged and later found guilty of the licence offence.

Richard Fletcher, Traffic Bureau Manager at North Yorkshire Police, said Harris had shown “a total disregard” for the safety of himself and others.

He added that removing repeat offenders from the roads was part of the force’s commitment to improving road safety across North Yorkshire.
