The Youth Pride Picnic, an event designed to bring together LGBTQ+ young people, allies, and their families in a relaxed and celebratory setting, will take place at the weekend.
The picnic will be held on Sunday, July 20 at Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre, near Thirsk.
Young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with additional needs) — along with a parent, carer, or trusted adult — are invited to enjoy a day of connection, colour, and community.
It is being organised by North Yorkshire Youth (NYY).
“This isn’t just a picnic,” says Panda Gledhill, NYY’s youth work manager.
“It’s a moment of pride, visibility, and joy for young people to be themselves, make friends, and feel celebrated in a safe, welcoming space.
“Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic, colourful outfits, and plenty of good vibes. With music, wellbeing activities, and space to simply be, the event is all about creating positive memories and affirming identities.”
For guests who have a favourite Pride anthem, young attendees can email their song requests to daisy@nyy.org.uk to help shape the event playlist.
