Firefighters were called to reports of smoke and sparks coming from a garden fence in Northallerton on Monday evening.
A crew from Northallerton attended The Crescent, Northallerton at 9.17pm.
On arrival, crews discovered the remains of a small fire involving household waste in an alleyway behind a property. The fire had spread to a nearby garden fence.
Although the fire had already gone out before firefighters arrived, crews used water buckets to dampen down the area and a thermal imaging camera to check for any remaining hotspots.
The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.
