Wensleydale Railway is set to spice up National Curry Week this October with its first Indian curry train event.

The evening journey, held in partnership with The Green Apple Tree Indian Restaurant in Northallerton, will depart from Leeming Bar on Monday, October 6, at 6.30pm.

Passengers will enjoy a scenic round trip to Leyburn – lasting around two hours – while being served authentic Indian dishes at their table in one of the railway’s heritage diesel-hauled carriages.

Tickets cost £45 and seats are limited, with more than half already sold.

The Green Apple Tree has partnered with Wensleydale Railway since 2024 and is known for its traditional Indian cuisine.

“This will be the first time we have held an Indian curry train event,” said Nick Keegan, the railway’s marketing and fundraising manager.

“We ran an Indian afternoon tea train service in May this year, which proved very popular, and we’ve had a lot of requests for another Indian food experience. We therefore anticipate high demand for this curry train.”

National Curry Week, which runs from October 6 to 12, celebrates the UK’s love affair with curry and the significant contribution of Indian cuisine to British food culture.
