Broadacres Housing Association has appointed Claire Townson as its new chief executive.
Ms Townson will take up the role on Sunday, February 1, 2026, succeeding interim chief executive Lee Sugden, who will step down when she begins the post.
Yorkshire-based Broadacres manages around 6,900 homes across North Yorkshire. Ms Townson has been part of the organisation for the past two years, serving as director of people, digital and communications.
Before joining Broadacres, she held the role of corporate services director at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, alongside more than 30 years’ experience in senior HR and leadership positions.
Helen Simpson OBE, chair of Broadacres, said the board was delighted with the appointment.
She said: “Claire brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the importance of social housing in sustaining rural communities. She is passionate about championing the voice of customers in all aspects of the services we provide.
“Her strong social values, commercial acumen and commitment to North Yorkshire will ensure Broadacres continues to flourish under her leadership.”
Speaking about her appointment, Ms Townson said she was proud to take on the role and excited about the organisation’s future.
She said: “I am thrilled to continue my career at Broadacres as chief executive, working with exceptional colleagues to deliver excellent services that focus on what matters most to our customers.
“With a strong executive team and an involved customer network influencing all aspects of our work, I’m excited about what the next chapter will bring. Our priorities will be providing quality homes, improving customer experience and strengthening partnerships to tackle rural housing challenges.”
The appointment follows an open and extensive recruitment process. Ms Simpson also paid tribute to interim chief executive Lee Sugden.
She said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Lee for his hard work during the interim period and wish him every success for the future.”
