‘Biggest little beer festival’ to be held this weekend

Danby Wiske Village Hall Yorkshire Beer Festival organisers prepare for this weekend’s festival.

A small village is gearing up to stage North Yorkshire’s ‘biggest little beer festival’.

Danby Wiske – population just 300 – is putting the finishing touches to its annual two-day event which gets bigger each year.

The festival is organised by the village hall committee to raise funds for the hall on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26.

Village Hall chair Adrian Farmer said: “We are a small community but the festival gets bigger every year with a bigger range of beers, lagers and ciders from a wider range of Yorkshire producers.

“We take pride in offering more to our drinkers each year while keeping the festival a friendly village event. We like to think of it as Yorkshire’s biggest little beer festival.”

This year – the sixth – the festival will feature more than 28 cask beers, two lagers and four ciders from 24 local breweries and cider makers. There will also be a range of gins, wine and prosecco, cocktails and mocktails.

Mr Farmer said: “This year we have an expanded range of low and no-alcohol beers and lagers including the 0% version of Theakston Old Peculiar called Nowt Peculiar.”

Hot food will be available throughout the weekend and on Saturday there will be live music from Rokkon, the Northallerton U3A Music for Fun Group, Tom Thorne, the Wiskey Band and No Direction.

The festival is held in the village hall from 5-11pm on the Friday and from noon to 11pm on Saturday. Entry is £4 on Friday and £6 on Saturday which includes commemorative glass (while stocks last) and a programme.
