Police are investigating a collision in which a woman in her 70s sadly died near Northallerton.
The incident happened at around 6.55pm yesterday when a red Kia Stonic left the B6271 near the Streetlam turn-off and collided with a tree.
Despite the efforts of members of the public who stopped to help, along with emergency service responders, the woman, who was the driver of the Kia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers would like to thank those members of the public who stopped to provide assistance.
The road was closed until just after 1am today to allow specialist officers from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to carry out their work and for the vehicle to be recovered.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to officers.
They are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the collision itself, or of the vehicle travelling along the B6271 prior to the incident.
