Motorists have been warned of severe delays on the A1(M) following a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between J49 at Dishforth and J48 at Boroughbridge.
The road is closed southbound, while one lane of the northbound carriageway is also shut.
Diversions have been put in place.
