Rishi Sunak has officially opened a new office for a Northallerton-based home care company as it expands its services into Darlington, South Durham and Yarm.

The Richmond and Northallerton MP visited Bluebird Care’s new premises at Thurston House, Omega Business Village, to mark the expansion of the family-run business.

Bluebird Care Northallerton, Thirsk & Catterick has been providing care to people in their own homes since 2013 and currently supports more than 100 customers.

In September, the company took over the neighbouring Darlington, South Durham and Yarm territory, extending its services to more communities across the region.

The company provides dementia care, personal care and companionship, with visits starting from 30 minutes.

It has also offered 24-hour live-in care since 2015, allowing people who need round-the-clock support to remain in their own homes rather than move into residential care.

During his visit, Mr Sunak toured the new office and met members of the management team, led by registered manager Lauren Smith.

They discussed the challenges of recruiting and retaining well-trained care staff and the importance of providing high-quality support.

The new Northallerton premises offer improved facilities, better parking and a more central location, and will serve as the base for both operating areas.

The company is also opening a community hub at Amity House, on Coniscliffe Road in Darlington, in early November, giving residents somewhere to meet staff and discuss care options.

The expansion is expected to create jobs, with Bluebird Care recruiting care assistants and support staff across its new areas.

Mr Sunak said: “It was a pleasure to visit Bluebird Care’s new office in Northallerton and congratulate Lauren and her team on this expansion.

“Being able to receive care in the comfort of your own home makes an enormous difference to people’s independence and quality of life, while also providing reassurance to their families.

“Bluebird Care has been supporting people in our communities for over a decade, and it is wonderful to see the business growing.”

Ms Smith joined the company as a carer aged 18 and worked her way through the business before qualifying to Level 5 and becoming registered manager at 23.

She said: “Taking on Darlington, South Durham and Yarm means we can now support many more families who want their loved ones to stay in the home they know and love, and our Darlington hub will give people in the new area somewhere local to come and talk to us.

“Our new office gives us improved facilities to better support our colleagues, which matters more than ever as we continue to grow.

“Many of our care professionals have been with us for over a decade, and we look forward to welcoming new colleagues.”

The company said its service has been rated Good in every area at every inspection by the Care Quality Commission.
