Jack and the Beanstalk brings theatre magic to Thirsk primary school

Members of the touring theatre company M&M Theatrical Productions perform to enrich the lives of pupils at Keeble Gateway Academy, Thirsk.

Pupils at a Thirsk primary school enjoyed a magical experience when a touring theatre company brought the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk to life.

Children from all year groups at Keeble Gateway Academy were treated to a performance by M&M Theatrical Productions, which specialises in bringing live theatre into schools.

The hour-long show featured music, dancing, comedy and plenty of audience participation as pupils followed Jack’s adventures in a magical land inhabited by giants.

The children joined in the excitement as the characters searched for a bird that lays golden eggs while trying to escape the clutches of a pantomime villain.

The performance formed part of the school’s commitment to providing pupils with a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom.

Headteacher Jonny Davies said the school, which is part of the Elevate Multi Academy Trust, was keen to give children opportunities to experience the arts alongside their academic learning.

He said: “Throughout every pupil’s time at Keeble Gateway Academy, we are committed to providing a rich and varied range of experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

“We want our children to have opportunities to experience sport, music and the arts, broadening their horizons and helping them to discover new interests and passions.

“The opportunity to experience live theatre is an important part of this.

“For many of our children, this may be their first experience of seeing a professional live performance and we believe opportunities such as these can create lasting memories, inspire curiosity and help children develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts.”
