Bedale Post Office has reopened following a temporary closure which left the town without a branch for more than two months.

The Post Office at 6 Market Place reopened this afternoon, September 7, restoring services which have been unavailable since the branch unexpectedly closed on July 3.

The closure had also resulted in the suspension of the Mobile Post Office service which serves a number of smaller communities in the surrounding area.

Post Office officials have confirmed the mobile service will restart tomorrow, September 8, with a new timetable covering 15 communities.

Services are being restored for communities including Crakehall, Leeming Bar, Leeming, Kirkby Fleetham, Snape, Newton-le-Willows, Well, Carthorpe, Scruton, Hunton, Finghall, Bellerby and Dishforth.

The reopened Bedale branch will provide the same range of Post Office services as previously.

Its opening hours will be 9am to 5.30pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Allison Wallace, Post Office divisional retail change manager, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted that Bedale Post has now re-opened.

“We are working hard to reinstate the Mobile Post Office for the surrounding areas too very soon.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary, unplanned closure of Bedale Post Office and to surrounding communities.”

The reopening will be welcomed in Bedale following concerns about the loss of the service.

The branch closed because of what the Post Office described as “unforeseen circumstances”, leaving residents needing to travel elsewhere to access Post Office services.

Its return also restores a service to the town centre at the same Market Place premises used before the closure.

The reinstatement of the Mobile Post Office from tomorrow will also bring services back to rural communities which have been without their regular visits since the Bedale branch closed.
