Cyclist throws helmet at dog walker in Northallerton

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information following an incident in Northallerton in which a woman was verbally abused and assaulted by a man known to her.

The incident happened on Saturday, 21 June 2026 at around 10.30am in the Applegarth area (DL7 postcode), while a 50-year-old woman was out walking her dog.

Police say the male suspect became verbally aggressive towards the woman before throwing his cycle helmet at her and pushing his bicycle towards her. A member of the public heard the disturbance and went to assist, at which point the suspect left the scene.

Officers are now particularly keen to trace the male member of the public who intervened, as he may hold important information about what happened.

PC 1864 Marshall is leading the investigation and has asked anyone with information, or the witness who stepped in, to come forward.
