Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious three-vehicle collision on the A6055 near Pickhill, west of Thirsk.
The crash happened at around 10.40am on Friday, April 24, and involved a grey Audi Q2, a red Land Rover Discovery and a silver Ford Fiesta, all travelling south.
North Yorkshire Police said the driver of the Audi, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.
The driver of the Land Rover, a 22-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
Two other people from the Audi and Fiesta were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Officers are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicles prior to the incident, to come forward.
In particular, police believe the occupants of a northbound vehicle may have stopped at the scene but left before officers arrived. The vehicle is not thought to have been involved in the crash, but its occupants may have vital information.
