A motorcyclist was forced off the road by police following a pursuit through Northallerton.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police attempted to stop a high-performance motorcycle shortly before 10pm on Friday night, but the rider failed to pull over.

The pursuit continued through the town, with the motorcyclist entering a pedestrian area and nearby alleyways before driving through a red light.

Police said specially trained officers brought the incident to a swift conclusion using tactical contact with a police vehicle, in order to minimise the risk to the public.

The rider came off the bike on a roundabout island, where he was detained by officers at the scene.

He is due to be interviewed in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said irresponsible use of high-powered vehicles puts people at serious risk and warned that officers “will not hesitate to take action” to protect the public.
