Wensleydale Railway has announced a full programme of 12 dining train services for the year ahead, including the return of its popular afternoon tea trains and the introduction of new Indian- and Mediterranean-inspired menus.
The heritage railway’s much-loved afternoon tea services will feature refreshed menus and additional dates, alongside new dining experiences designed to offer something a little different for customers. As well as traditional afternoon tea favourites, passengers will be able to enjoy a Ploughman’s Lunch service, Mediterranean-style dishes and a selection of Indian-inspired menus.
Indian cuisine fans are particularly well catered for this year, with two Indian-inspired afternoon tea trains and two evening dining trains featuring a range of authentic Indian dishes. The menus have been developed in partnership with The Green Apple Tree Indian Restaurant in Northallerton.
The dining train season begins with a Valentine’s Day lunchtime service on Sunday, 15 February, and continues throughout the year with themed journeys to mark special occasions. These include Mother’s Day on Sunday, 15 March, Easter Sunday on Sunday, 5 April, a Spring afternoon tea on Sunday, 19 April, an Indian-inspired tea train on Sunday, 3 May, and an Indian-cuisine evening train on Sunday, 18 May.
Further dates include an early summer afternoon tea on Sunday, 7 June, a Ploughman’s Lunch special on Father’s Day, Sunday, 21 June, a Yorkshire Day service on Sunday, 2 August, a Mediterranean-inspired summer train on Sunday, 23 August, another Indian-cuisine evening train on Sunday, 21 September, and a final Indian-inspired afternoon tea on Sunday, 18 October.

Nick Keegan, Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Wensleydale Railway, said: “Our catering team volunteers, led by Mo Park, have worked incredibly hard with our partners at The Green Apple Tree Indian Restaurant to develop new and exciting menus for our customers. We trialled an Indian afternoon tea and an evening curry train last year, and they proved very popular, so we’re delighted to be expanding the Indian-inspired food offer this year.”
He added: “Our dining trains are perfect for celebrating a special occasion, enjoying family time, giving a unique gift or simply treating yourself. We encourage people to do something different this year and create lasting memories on board our trains.”
