Appeal for witnesses after man hit by lorry on A1(M)

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a man was seriously injured following a collision on the A1(M) near Dishforth late on Saturday, January 10.

The incident happened at around 10.45pm at junction 49, where the A168 joins the southbound carriageway of the A1(M).

A black Skoda Octavia was travelling southbound and joining the A1 when it is believed to have lost control on the slip road before crashing into the central reservation.

Following the crash, the two occupants of the Skoda ran from the vehicle.

One of the men ran across the northbound carriageway, where he was struck by a lorry travelling north. He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, where he remains.

The second occupant fled into nearby woodland but was located a short time later and arrested in connection with the incident. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed for approximately five hours while emergency services treated the injured man, recovered the vehicles and carried out a full examination of the scene.

Police are urging any motorists who saw the Skoda prior to the collision, witnessed the crash itself, or saw the two men running across either carriageway to come forward.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage that may have captured the incident.
