North Yorkshire Police has marked the first anniversary of the death of PC Rosie Prior, who was killed in a road traffic collision after stopping to help another motorist.

Today marks one year since PC Prior, 45, died following the incident on the A19 at Bagby, near Thirsk, while she was off duty.

PC Prior joined North Yorkshire Police as a student officer in May 2022 and was initially posted to Athena House in York.

After completing a year in the role, she transferred to Acomb, where she became a valued and respected member of the Band 1 Response team.

Following her death, the force unveiled a commemorative plaque in the memorial garden at Police Headquarters and dedicated its conference facility in PC Prior’s memory.

To mark the anniversary, Deputy Chief Constable Scott Bisset laid flowers in the memorial garden during a short service of remembrance.

He said: “Rosie was the very best of policing, putting the safety of others before her own in order to help people.”
