Firefighters were called to a commercial property on East Road in Northallerton after reports of smoke coming from a till.
Crews from Northallerton Fire Station attended the incident at around 10.10am and carried out a thorough inspection of the premises using a thermal imaging camera.
No further signs of fire were found during the checks.
Firefighters advised the business to isolate the affected till and arrange for an engineer to attend to inspect the equipment.
