Firefighters were called to tackle a blaze on the Standard Way Industrial Estate in Northallerton on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 4.24pm in a unit in Gaskell Close.
Fire crews from Northallerton, Bedale, Thirsk, Stokesley, Ripon, Richmond and neighbouring brigade Darlington attended the fire
In total, eight appliances were called to the incident, including a new Thirsk engine that only arrived an hour before the alert.
The unit is next to Bishopton Vets.
The company said in a post on social media: “Earlier today, a fire broke out at the garage next to our Northallerton surgery. Everyone is safe, but the surgery has had to close temporarily.
Residents and businesses nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution.
People were also urged to avoid the area where possible while emergency services worked at the scene.
North Yorkshire Police are attending the scene to manage road closures.
