A family-run business is taking the reins of the popular Moors and Dales Races (MaD Races) brand, kicking off their tenure with a festive 5K trail run at Kiplin Hall and Gardens this month.
Abi Hockaday and her family took ownership of MaD Races in March 2025, taking over from previous owners Carol and Dave Murray.
The new era begins with the “Don’t Stop Be’Leafin 5k Dash,” set for Saturday, November 29, running through the grounds of Kiplin Hall.
The event is pitched as an ideal beginner’s race due to its compact, enclosed course.
Ms Hockaday highlighted the community and fun aspect, encouraging participants to turn out in costume.
“Running is a wonderful activity to bring people together and ignite a passion,” Ms Hockaday explained.
“We hope runners at this event will join in the fun and come in fancy dress. As the weather changes and puts some off running, let’s have one more fun run ahead of a fuller programme in 2026.”
For those supporting the runners, Kiplin Hall’s new Visitor Centre and Café offers a warm space.
James Etherington, director of Kiplin Hall and Gardens, will be participating in the dash.
He plans to run in a 17th-century costume, honouring the hall’s first owner, George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore.
Mr Etherington’s run will mark the completion of his personal challenge to run 400 kilometres, celebrating the 400th Anniversary of Kiplin Hall.
Runners who want to book a place and welcome the new face of MaD Races can register online at www.madraces.org until Thursday, 27th November.
