Visitors are invited to enjoy a taste of Christmas past as Wensleydale Railway brings its popular Edwardian Christmas event back to Scruton Station next month.
The atmospheric heritage station, restored and run by volunteers, will open its doors on Sunday 14 December from 1pm to 4pm, offering an afternoon of traditional festive activities led by the railway’s costumed living history interpreters.
The station will be decked out for Christmas as it would have been more than a century ago, with visitors able to enjoy carol singing, chestnut roasting, and Christmas craft activities suitable for all ages. Seasonal refreshments will also be on offer, including mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies.
Admission is £6.50 for adults, which includes a hot drink and a mince pie, and £3 for children, who will receive festive treats and a hot chocolate. There is no need to book in advance.
The railway’s train services will not be operating on the day, and there is no on-site parking at Scruton Station. Those arriving by car are advised to park on the roadside just beyond the station on the west side of Station Road.
Connor Lagus, Community Engagement Officer at Wensleydale Railway, said: “Our annual Edwardian Christmas event at Scruton Station is a wonderful opportunity to welcome visitors from near and far to enjoy some festive cheer and share the spirit of the season over mince pies and a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate.
“The event has a relaxed, drop-in atmosphere, so you are welcome to stay as long as you like and experience the station at its most magical. We look forward to celebrating the season with you.”
