Wensleydale Railway will once again be hosting its Industrial Diesel Weekend later this month.
The event takes place on Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, with a special timetable running over both days.
Passenger and freight demonstration trains will operate between Leeming Bar and Scruton, while passenger services will also run between Leeming Bar and Leyburn.
The proposed locomotive line-up includes:
-
Class 03 (03144) ex MOD
-
Class 14 (D9523) ex British Steel Corby
-
Class 14 (D9513) ex NCB Ashington
-
WL4 ex Tyne & Wear works loco (also worked on Channel Tunnel)
The railway’s popular class 37 locomotive (37250) will also haul passenger services.
Highlights include double-headed class 14 locomotives and brake van rides from Leeming Bar to Scruton for £5 (over 16s only). There will also be shunting for loco changes at Leeming Bar.
Visitors can also explore the award-winning restored station museums at Leeming Bar and Scruton, with free guided tours from costumed living history interpreters. The railway recommends arriving 30 minutes before departure to enjoy the experience.
Catering will be available at Leeming Bar’s buffet coach and Leyburn Station’s tearoom, which will be serving snacks, drinks and volunteer Mandy’s “world-famous” cakes.
The event runs daily from 9am to 5.30pm. All-day ranger tickets cost £25, with children aged three to 15 travelling for £1 when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets can be bought online or at stations on the day.
Limited parking will be available at Leeming Bar Station for people with disabilities and mobility issues.
Additional parking will be provided at the O’Brien Fine Foods factory overflow car park, off Leases Road.
Nick Keegan, marketing and fundraising manager at Wensleydale Railway, said: “This is the second time that we have held an industrial-themed diesel locomotive event and had our fleet of diesel shunters operating at the same time. Last year’s event was very popular with visitors and rail enthusiasts, and we anticipate similar interest this year.”
