Firefighters were called to a baler fire which had spread to the surrounding field and bales.
The incident was reported at about 5.25pm on Saturday near Potto.
A fire crew from Stokesley was the first on the scene.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Upon arrival, Stokesley crew focused on stopping the spread of the fire before it went ‘hay-wire’ to further bales and crop stubble before the farmers’ tractor and cultivator was able to assist with creating a border around the perimeter of the fire.
“Stokesley were backed up by Northallerton Fire Station wholetime crew who also dampened down the border of the fire to reduce the spread.
“With the additional help of Northallerton’s retained appliance, we had a few extra pairs of hands to assist crop the border down and ferry water to our fireground appliances before Stokesley went and focused their efforts on the baler.
“Boroughbridge’s water bowser was later requested to assist with the water supply to our appliances.”
Crews then tackled all of the bales with the assist of the farmer with a telehandler to assist breaking up the bales and allowing crews to extinguish them fully.
