An elderly woman has died after a collision near Thirsk.
Police were called to Carlton Road, in Carlton Miniott, at about 2pm yesterday following a report that a grey Kia Sportage car had collided with a pedestrian.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the pedestrian, a 78-year-old woman from Thirsk, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Her next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.”
The driver of the vehicle, an 80-year-old man, also from Thirsk, was uninjured.
He was arrested at the scene and has since been released on police bail.
