Funding of £715,000 has been made available to support organisations working to improve men’s mental health across York and North Yorkshire.

The Men’s Mental Health Investment Fund forms the latest stage of Mayor David Skaith’s £7 million Moving Forward campaign, which aims to create a healthier and more resilient region.

The fund is designed to strengthen local, accessible mental health support for men, with a focus on tackling stigma and reaching communities that can struggle to access services.

Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, said too many men were still dying young due to poor mental health, describing the issue as a crisis that has affected families across the region.

He said: “Knowing what to do when you’re struggling with your mental health is the first step, but it’s often harder to find support that is local and accessible.

“I have met with groups and seen the life-changing work already happening here to support men’s mental health. Now we need to boost their work and plug the gaps in support.”

The funding will prioritise projects that improve access in rural areas, promote male-friendly engagement, support mental health in the workplace, invest in young people – particularly neurodivergent young people – and improve digital access and clarity of services.

Mr Skaith said the timing of the launch was particularly important, with the festive period proving challenging for many.

He added: “Christmas can be a hard time for our communities, making the launch of this new £715,000 fund as part of my Moving Forward campaign even more vital. We are investing in our people because when men are healthier, our communities are wealthier.”

Applications are open to a wide range of organisations, including charities, social enterprises, community interest companies, community groups, parish councils, small and medium-sized businesses, and educational institutions.

The Men’s Mental Health Investment Fund is open for applications until Friday, January 2, 2026.
