Sport England grant success for Hambleton clubs

Sport England have awarded 17 Hambleton sports clubs a share of £49,902 from the Community Emergency Fund.

It is the largest amount to be awarded to an individual area.

The funding has been made available in response to the Coronovirus pandemic and has already benefitted clubs from Northallerton, Stokesley, Thirsk, Bedale, Thornton le Moor, Sessay, Leake and Sowerby.

District councillor Bridget Fortune, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “The outbreak of the virus and consequent shutdown of businesses at short notice left the sport and physical activity sector facing uncertainty, but thanks to Sport England our local sports clubs – who support and encourage our communities to be active – are getting some help.

“We were extremely lucky in Hambleton that we were one of the highest benefactors to date from this fund.”

Grants went to: Thornton Le Moor CC; Stokesley Bowls Club; Tanfield Angling Club; Golf in Society; Stokesley CC; Thirsk CC; Stokesley Sports Club; Bedale Junior FC; Thirsk School of Gymnastics; Bedale AFC; Sessay CC; Thirsk Falcons FC; Sowerby Flatts Bowling Club; Thirsk Athletic Sports and Social Club; Leake CC; and Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club.
