A man has denied causing the death of two teenagers in a crash.

Luke Ridley faced seven charges when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court today.

George Thomas Turner, from Sowerby, and Mason Pearson, from Thirsk, both aged 17, died in a crash on the A61 between Busby Stoop and Carlton Miniott on March 8.

George and Mason were both passengers in a Volkswagen Bora which it is alleged was being driven by Mr Ridley, of Victoria Road, Thornaby when it was in collision with a Ford Focus.

Another two passengers in the Bora, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, were taken to hospital in a critical condition and later discharged.

Before the Recorder of Middlesbrough, Judge Simon Bourne Arton QC, the 23-year-old entered a formal not guilty plea to two charges of causing death by dangerous driving.

He also denied five other charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Another man, William James Corser, 18, of St Mary’s Walk, Thirsk, appeared in the dock alongside Ridley.

He denies one charge of dangerous driving on the same date.

The pair will both now face trial on July 8 this year.
