A scout centre has improved its outdoor play equipment thanks to council cash.

The Watson Scout Centre in Carlton in Cleveland has used a grant of  £4,500 from Hambleton District Council’s Making a Difference Fund to replace a worn out climbing frame and swing with a new state of the art ‘Pod Swing’.

The swing is designed for multiple users and encourages social play and physical activity which is also fun.

More than 1,200 young people use the activity centre each year for a residential experience.

It is available to cubs, scouts, brownies and girl guides, as well as local schools, boys brigades, search and rescue, walking groups, and Duke of Edinburgh groups.

The centre, which is run by a voluntary management committee provides 36 beds, communal lounge, dining room, kitchen, activity room, play area and a large camping field at the rear.
